AI Policy and Governance

The purpose of this course is to familiarize you with some of the core concepts, actors, issues, and governance strategies that have emerged to help realize AI's benefits and minimize potential harm. We will review current regulatory trends at the international, national, and subnational levels, discuss key debates and challenges, and help you understand how to stay continually informed and engaged. As the course will cover public policy, governance strategies proposed by corporations, and considerations from civil society, this micro credential should position you to stay on top of trends and advance your work regardless of which sector you are most focused on.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
• Identify core concepts in the emerging AI policy domain including key actors, institutions, and governance strategies that have been proposed by or adopted in governments, firms, and civil society organizations.
• Analyze and evaluate the social and ethical dimensions of AI, focusing on issue spotting and understanding the policy implications of these issues.
• Examine current regulatory trends and policy frameworks for AI governance, including prominent debates and challenges.
• Synthesize emerging best practices, issues, and debates in AI policy and governance, while developing strategies for continual monitoring and staying informed.

 

*This course is a joint collaboration between UCSI and Purdue University. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate co-issued by both UCSI and Purdue University.

 

ODL Students Eligible for UCSI College Convocation

Upon completion of ODL courses, students are eligible to attend the UCSI College convocation, where they will wear the graduation gown and receive a certificate in place of a scroll. Please note, the graduation fee is not included in the course fee.
